The Series That Defined Downtown’s Performance Art Scene Will Have Final Three Shows By December 19
This December marks the end of OUR HIT PARADE, the “hilarious” (New York Post) live, top-ten countdown at Joe’s Pub at The Public that has been the centerpiece of New York’s downtown performance art scene for over five years. The final shows will be November 14 at 9:30 PM, followed by two specials on December 19 at 7:30 & 10:00 PM including a 2012 TOP TEN COUNTDOWN and HITS OF OUR HIT PARADE. Starring Tony nominee and Obie winner Kenny Mellman (Kiki & Herb), carnal chanteuse Bridget Everett (Bridget Everett & the Tender Moments) and pop-song opera impresario Neal Medlyn (known for his pop star based performance pieces), OUR HIT PARADE (OHP) is inspired by the musical sketch series Your Hit Parade that ran on radio and then television from 1935 to 1959. On that show, cast members performed the week’s most popular songs as comically literal skits. In this show, the hosts and special guest stars present their renditions of current popular hits from Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Beyonce, P!nk and more, live on stage.
“It’s been an honor to watch the show evolve,” said Shanta Thake, Director, Joe’s Pub. “It transformed the landscape of New York’s cabaret scene, launched careers and inspired many unpredictable, highly-entertaining late nights. We’re sad to say goodbye, but very excited to see what Bridget, Kenny and Neal do next.”
Since it began, OUR HIT PARADE has developed a community of over 130 regular guest artists including Alan Cumming, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Magnetic Fields, Adam Horovitz, Moby, Molly Pope, Jenn Harris, Erin Markey, Cole Escola and many more. In the spirit of countdowns, Joe’s Pub will honor some of the greatest moments of OHP history with countdowns leading up to December’s finale. Exclusive Q+A’s, videos, photos and more will post to Joe’s Pub social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr) throughout the months of November and December.
